He wants a list of those who traveled to and from India in past 15 days
Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said the Covid-19 situation in the country could become similar to India and Nepal after Eid if people continue moving recklessly.
He was speaking at a virtual meeting with top government officials of the bordering districts on Monday.
He said: “Taking advantage of the relaxed lockdown, moving from one district to another is a suicidal decision.”
The minister also said immediate steps need to be taken so that vehicles moving in the bordering districts cannot move in other districts.
He also asked the authorities concerned to conduct the maximum number of Covid-19 tests in the bordering areas to prevent the transmission of the Indian variant of the deadly virus.
The divisional commissioners of Rangpur, Sylhet, Khulna and Chittagong; the deputy inspectors general of police in the respective ranges; the deputy commissioners, superintendents of police and civil surgeons of the bordering districts; among others, were told to conform with the order, reports Bangla Tribune.
The call came just two days after Bangladesh identified at least six cases of the highly contagious Indian variant.
Seeking a list of the people of the bordering areas who have travelled to and from India in the past 15 days, the minister also mandated Covid-19 test for their family members.
Zahid Meleque instructed the officials concerned to check the movement of transports from the bordering areas to the rest of the country.
Bangladesh on April 26 closed its border with India for the next 14 days for passengers to control the spread of the deadly virus. But the closure was extended for another two weeks on Saturday, hours after the Indian variant was detected in Bangladesh.
