Death toll reaches 12,045 while total number of infections stands at 777,397
Bangladesh has registered 40 deaths from Covid-19 in the 24 hours to Wednesday morning. With the latest development, the total number of deaths reached 12,045 in the country.
On Tuesday, Bangladesh crossed the grim milestone of 12,000 deaths from the virus.
The country also logged a total of 777,397 coronavirus cases with 1,140 people testing positive over the same period.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country with a press release on Wednesday.
Of the 40 deceased – 27 men and 13 women – 16 were from Dhaka division; 13 from Chittagong; three each from Rajshahi and Rangpur; two each from Khulna and Barisal; and one from Sylhet division.
Of them, 32 patients died in government hospitals, five in private hospitals, and three at home.
Twenty of the deceased patients were aged above 60, 11 between 51 and 60, four each in 41-50 and 31-40 age groups, and one aged between 11 and 20.
So far, 8,726 men (72.44%) and 3,319 women (27.56%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.
Since the beginning, 6,972 people have died in Dhaka division, 2,240 in Chittagong, 633 in Rajshahi, 727 in Khulna, 367 in Barisal, 419 in Sylhet, 440 in Rangpur, and 247 in Mymensingh.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.55%.
The health authorities said 2,928 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.
So far, 718,249 patients – 92.39% – have made full recovery across the country.
As many as 15,296 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in the 459 authorized labs — government and private — across the country.
The latest figures show an infection rate of 7.45%. The overall infection rate of the country stands at 13.69%.
Currently, 18,113 people are in isolation and 46,689 are quarantined.
On Wednesday, another 10 people got the first dose, taking the total number of first doses to 5,819,910. While 97,337 got the second dose during the same time, taking the total vaccinated to 3,593,523.
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China’s Wuhan city in late December, 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 3,332,883 lives and infected 160,372,576 people across the world till Wednesday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 138,161,406 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 219 countries and territories across the planet.
