They drowned while crossing the river
Police have recovered the bodies of a Rohingya woman and two children from the Naf River from Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar on Saturday.
The bodies were found floating on the river at Teknaf upazila’s Whykong union around 2pm.
Police believe all three bodies were Rohingyas who presumably died while trying to swim across the river.
“After being informed, a team from Teknaf police station went to the spot and recovered the bodies,” Teknaf Model police station Officer-in-Charge Hafizur Rahman said while talking to Eastend24.
“We believe that the three died while trying to cross the river in an attempt to trespass into Bangladesh territory. The woman is presumed to be 30-years-old, while the two children might be from 5-years to 7-years old,” he added.
Meanwhile, multiple sources said the specific area of the border was an active route for yaba smuggling and the death of the three might be related to it.
