Police have arrested a wanted criminal, who used to sell yaba tablets and lead a teen gang of petty criminals under the guise of a beggar, from Chittagong city.
Mohammad Shahed, 25, better known as Bhikhari (beggar), has six cases filed against him. He was arrested five times in the cases, but secured bail and resorted to drug peddling again, police say.
He used to collect drugs from different areas and sell them in Agrabad area with the help of a gang of 10-12 people, all of whom are accused in multiple cases.
A team of Double Mooring police station acted on a tip-off and arrested him from the city’s Panwala Para in Agrabad area on Sunday.
They also seized a gun, a bullet and 50 yaba tablets from his possession, OC Mohammad Mohsin confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
Shahed was sent to court in the afternoon, he added.
OC Mohsin said: “It was very difficult for us to catch him as he had several informers alerting him about police presence in the area.”
