Enamul Hoque Chowdhury, editor of the Daily Sun, an English daily, has been made chairman of the newly formed board of directors of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB).
The new board will work for the next two years with immediate effect, according to a gazette notification issued by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry on Tuesday.
It said the 15-member board include representatives (not below the rank of joint secretary) from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, the Ministry of Public Administration, the Finance Division, the Secondary and Higher Education Division, principal information officer (PIO) of Press Information Department (PID), chairman of Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Dhaka University, acting editor of the Daily Samakal Mustafiz Shafi, Editor-in-Chief of the Bangladesh Post Sharif Shahabuddin, Chief Editor of DBC News Monjurul Islam, treasurer of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Deep Azad, member of BFUJ Sheikh Mamunur Rashid, President of Jatiya Press Club Begum Farida Yasmin, Editor of daily Desh Bartoman Nasiruddin Chowdhury and Director General of PIB Zafar Wazed.
Prior to joining the Daily Sun, Enamul Hoque Chowdhury served as minister (Press) at Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi.
He was also a commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission, Bangladesh.
In his long journalistic career, he worked for various national and international media, including Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Bangladesh Observer, Daily News (now defunct), The Independent, Desh TV, Reuters, and Bdnews24.com.
