A total of 163 fatalities reported in 24 hours to Tuesday morning with a test positivity rate of 31.46%
With 11,525 new Covid-19 cases detected in the 24 hours to Tuesday morning, Bangladesh yet again reported its highest single-day caseload, only a day after logging record single-day infections and deaths on the same day.
The new record surpassed the previous high of 9,964 on Monday.
As many as 36,631 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 31.46%.
Dhaka logged 5,097 cases, the highest among the divisions followed by Khulna with 1,865 cases, Chittagong with 1,540, and Rajshahi with 1,225.
Meanwhile, as many as 163 more people died from Covid-19 in the 24-hour period.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country with a press release on Tuesday afternoon.
The Covid-19 hotspot Khulna reported 46 fatalities, the most among the eight divisions, closely followed by Dhaka with 45 deaths.
Rajshahi and Chittagong division counted 24 deaths each while Rangpur logged nine deaths, Barisal six, Mymensingh five, and Sylhet two.
The total number of deaths reached 15,392 while the number of total infections rose to 966,406 in the country.
Of the 163 deceased – 98 men and 65 women – 91 were aged above 60, 29 aged between 51 and 60, 27 aged between 41 and 50, 11 aged between 31 and 40, and five in 21-30 age group.
The pandemic has, so far, claimed the lives of 10,883 men (70.71%) and 4,509 women (29.29%).
On the other hand, another 5,433 patients recovered from the infectious disease across the country, taking the total number of recovery to 844,515.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.59%.
The overall test positivity rate stands at 14.22%.
Vaccination
On Tuesday, 893 people received second dose of Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine, taking the total number of people receiving second dose of vaccine to 4,292,600. Meanwhile, a total of 5,820,015 people received first dose of the vaccine.
Additionally, 8,453 people received first dose of Sinopharm vaccine over the same period, taking the total to 87,201 till now while 2,237 people received second dose of the vaccine till Tuesday.
Meanwhile, 1,146 people received first dose of Pfizer vaccine till now, taking the total to 3,888.
The health authorities in Bangladesh in March 8, 2020 reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
Since November last year, five variants of the virus have been detected in Bangladesh including the Indian variant (B.1.617.2) being the latest. It was later renamed as the Delta variant.
The rest of the variants identified in the country are the UK (B.1.1.7), South Africa (B.1.351), Nigeria (B.1.525) and Brazilian (P1) variants of the coronavirus.
The coronavirus disease broke out in China’s Wuhan city in late December, 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 4,003,000 lives and infected as many as 185,045,000 people across the world till Tuesday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 169,387,000 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 220 countries and territories across the planet.
