He died while undergoing treatment at a Dhaka hospital
Jatiya Party Secretary General and former minister Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu has passed away.
The 66-year-old died while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in Dhaka’s Shyamoli at 9:12am on Saturday.
Khandaker Delwar Jalali, Jatiya Party chairman’s press secretary, confirmed the matter to media .
Bablu was admitted to Labaid Specialized Hospital in Dhanmondi for Covid-19 on September 6. He was taken to the ICU of Bangladesh Specialized Hospital after his condition worsened.
The former lawmaker had been suffering from various health issues, including asthma and heart disease, for some time, Jalali said.
His namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayers) will be held after Isha prayers at Gulshan Azad Mosque. He will be buried at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals’ Graveyard afterwards.
President M Abdul Hamid expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of the Jatiya Party leader, reports BSS.
In a separate condolence message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
In April 2014, Bablu was appointed Jatiya Party secretary general, replacing Ruhul Amin Hawlader.
Later on January 19, 2016, party founder HM Ershad removed Bablu from the post and replaced him with Ruhul Amin Hawlader.
Bablu was made party secretary general once again on July 26 last year by Chairman GM Quader.
