The lawmaker says the administration cannot evade responsibility for the communal attacks
Lawmaker Hasanul Haq Inu has said that the Digital Security Act (DSA) should be amended to stop abuse of the law.
“The Digital Security Act has to be revised, so that mainstream media journalists can be protected from misuse of the law,” said Inu, who is the chief of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, at Satkhira Circuit House on Wednesday.
“A digital space has been created due to the advancement of information and communication technology. This digital space is now under attack from communal forces and cyber criminals; women are being harassed. Ensuring cyber security is a key task to protect human rights. But it (DSA) is being abused. It should be revised to prevent abuse,” the former minister told reporters.It’s been two years since the law was passed. Now it’s time to revise it and make it time-befitting so that no journalist falls victim to the misuse of the law,” said Inu, who is also chairman of the parliamentary Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
On the communal attacks perpetrated since October 13, the lawmaker said that the administration could not evade its responsibility.
He blamed the inaction of the communal public servants and the infiltration of communal people into secularist parties for the attacks.
It’s not a good sign that the country is experiencing attacks on temples, the Ahmadiyya community and other minorities. Now it’s a challenge for the political parties as well as the government to guarantee that such communal attacks will not recur in the future.”
Inu said that the 14-party alliance should be in power to destroy the militants and root out corruption from the country.
On the caretaker government issue, the former minister said that the BNP was dreaming of establishing a government by ousting the incumbent government. He questioned whether the BNP wanted a neutral election or was trying to change the government.
