India’s Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday morning detained a Bangladeshi man along the transnational border in Naogaon.
The man identified as Monirul Islam was apprehended with cattle near Hapania area under Porsha upazila of Naogaon, Lt Col Rezaul Kabir, commanding officer of BGB-16 battalion confirmed.
He said Monirul was handed over to police custody after BSF filed a case against him with Habipur police station in Malda district on charges of illegal entry and smuggling cattle.
Monirul Islam hails from Bishnupur village in Nitpur union of Naogaon’s Porsha upazila.
According to locals, a group of 7-8 Bangladeshis illegally entered India Friday night to bring cattle. While returning to Bangladesh with livestock early Saturday morning, some BSF members from the Kedaripara camp chased them in the Bhutparagram area.
Monirul was apprehended with cattle in the Malda district’s Bhutparagram area, while others managed to flee, they added.
