Two others arrested after the shooting in Chakaria, says the elite police unit
Two people, whom the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has claimed to be robbers, were killed in Cox’s Bazar in the early hours of Monday in what is being described as a gunfight.
The elite police unit is yet to confirm the identities of victims in the ‘shootout’ at Chakaria upazila, but claimed they were wanted in several charges.
Two others have been arrested from the site after the gunfight, according to Major Sheikh Yunus Ahmed of the Cox’s Bazar-based RAB 15.
A raid was carried out in the early hours of Monday following “a tip-off on a robbery in progress”, said the senior RAB officers.
The robbers opened fire forcing the RAB members to retaliate, according to Major Yunus.
Two people were found with gunshot wounds at the scene while two others were arrested, he said. The injured men were taken to the local hospital, where doctors declared them dead, added the RAB officer.
Three firearms and ammunition were found at the site of the shooting, he added.
